The conference was organized by KSEA in collaboration with KOFST and KUSCO and was held at MIT in Cambridge, MA, on August 10–12, 2001. Approximately 400 people attended the conference, including about 100 participants from Korea. After several years of low attendance and lackluster funding, this meeting showed a significant improvement. More than 260 people presented technical papers across four symposiums and 24 technical sessions, along with three special forums and one workshop. A Career–Job Fair also drew a good crowd.
Korea appeared to have been resurrected. Industry sponsors and exhibitors expressed their satisfaction, helping to revitalize KSEA. A major grant from SK Telecom enabled travel and meal support for participants. The Friday gala dinner was sponsored by LG, and the Saturday Boston Harbor cruise dinner entertainment was sponsored by SK Telecom. The three-day program was run smoothly by the KSEA HQ staff, members of the New England Chapter, and the local organizing committee. Proceedings of the conference were produced and distributed in CD form for the first time.
